B rders

The "O" light is out in B_rders

“It's just a sign of the times.”

He tells me

While I step out of the car.

I look up

At the world's collided

Do they even know it yet?

On the ride over

Our car snaked across the mountain.

Humming all the while.

I stared at my home.

In the darkness of the world

A see of star's

Of lights

Look back on me

A glittered night scape.

How strange must we appear

From up there?

In borders a sound drums in my head.

Music?

Too low to really tell.

And melodic

I don't even notice it.

Borders used to be a class thing.

When I grew up.

And it is, culturally.

It's the arts

It's the digested arts for the upper class.

There ae many places like this, but i think borders, barne's and nobles, i think that's our form

The upper class ALWAYS got to enjoy the arts

And white's have always been upper class here.

In this nation.

No doubt about that.

So I remember walking into borders

Everyone was white

Friendly!

Wonderful!

They'd buy their coffee table books

Because they had coffee tables

They'd browse the forgien film section

Or a good dvd to show off their new home theater

College books.

That's how it was.

Minorites got in

I got in didn't i?

It wasn't a white's only club in reality

But demographically

Now I'm sitting in here

And i think

Holy shit

This is change.

I'm counting twelve people here

Two are white.

And one of them works behind the cash register in the coffee shop.

This didn't exist ten years ago.

This isn't just about race.

Our entire identity has changed.

I saw car loots PACKED with cars

A gluttonous, fat, heavy slug on the highway

“That sucks, they gotta park it on the grass”

He said when we had passed them.

I nodded

Brad Pitt is gettng old

But he's not going to die

Not as long as we live

He's achieved legend status

One more tally to the census

Still only two white people.

There is that sound again.

She order's a chocalate chip cookie.

It's a dollar eighty.

Then swipes her reward card.

I wonder what that means.

I see Tazo Tea being sold excessivley. Along with all the Tazo approved thermoses to drink them.

One up, still two

The boy is definitely dressed like a girl.

I'm not making fun of him.

But it's a very tight very thin and very lightly red striped shirt

He has very long hair tha falls sharply in front of his eyes

And when he scratches his side his shirt lifts up to reveal

A smooth, flat stomach

I'm sure it drives girls wild.

Is that Future fashion?

Is that modern fashion?

I have to make a website,

For my father,

He is an artist, and he wants me to set up a website for him.

Oh look

Another kid with girl hair.

Make no mistake, I don't mean to make fun of his hair

Just to understand it is all.

I had my hair long once.

I guess I needed attention.

Don't know why.

Sometimes now I just want ot dissapear.

It's a strange world we live in

Stranger yet, the time

My friend had driven me here

To Borders,

After we drove together for a bit,

Did I mention that?

In case you were wondering.

Maybe you weren't

But I don't want to confuse the rest of you.

He's going to be a doctor

I had an epiphany on the ride.

Character and Story ideas.

I've been stuck with a story,

I had the idea,

But....the puzzles....weren't...right...

And then it hit me on the drive.

I think I can do it now,

Thing is,

This is about the 8th epiphany I've had.

And I'm still in the same shitter.

Plus my girlfriend left me.

Fuck me.

The Border's annoucer is asking me to make my final purchase

Because they are closing in fifteen minutes.

What a world.
